Welcome to Our Website

The Discalced Carmelite Order is an International Religious Order in the Roman Catholic Church. Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, it is inspired by the Prophet Elijah, reformed by St. Teresa of Jesus and St. John of the Cross and called to union with God through contemplative prayer, fraternal living and evangelical service.

The friars were invited to Nigeria in the year 1988 by the Bishop emeritus of Enugu, Rt. Rev. Dr. Michael Eneja, of blessed memory. With the blessing of vocations, the Order in Nigeria has grown and spread to various parts of the country where the friars strive to build truly contemplative and fraternal communities, animated by evangelical self-denial at the service of the Church and society.
